Connections Empowers Families in Pettis and Saline Counties to Rise Out of Poverty

Community members and MVCAA staff join forces to help families rise out of poverty through an initiative called Connections. Weekly support meetings provide financial, education, employment opportunities and mentoring to help families gain the skills and the confidence to choose a new direction—one that ultimately elevates them to self-reliance.

Through a hand-up and not a hand-out approach, Connections’ families participate in a cadre of life skills training initiatives that include improving and changing their self-image to building self esteem. Through a strong support system, participants are motivated to reshape, rebuild, and repurpose their lives.

Pettis County New Directions meets on Thursdays at the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Sedalia at 5:30 p.m.
Saline County New Directions meets on Tuesdays at the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall at 5:30 p.m.
